Mark 9:30-50 〰️ Mark 9:30-50 〰️

This week, the staff is prepping for our leader appreciation dinner, so we'll have a shorter guide again. We have a longer text this week but between the Sunday sermon and the chapter in Christ-Centered Exposition, we know there will be greatdiscussion. Below are some passage-specific questions.

As an additional note, we'll touch on Romans 14:13-23, in which Paul writes about not putting a stumbling block in front of your sister or brother in Christ. Paul is trying to tell readers that if another follower of Christ feels convicted (by the Holy Spirit) to abstain from a certain kind of food, it's unloving to partake in the given food in their presence, as we would be leading them into unnecessary temptation and away from the conviction of the Holy Spirit. Similarly, there are many stumbling blocks today that we might unintentionally place in front of another believer.

Discussion Questions

  • What stood out to you from the passage?

  • Does anything in this passage remind you of another part of Scripture?

  • Do you have any questions?

  • What are some things that can drive us apart as followers of Christ?

  • How does this passage drive us toward unity as followers of Jesus?

  • Read Romans 14:13-23. This passage specifically talks about food, but what does it mean to put a stumbling block in front of someone? What are some examples you can think of today?

  • What do you think it means to do something good in the name of Jesus? How does that differ from how the world tries to do good things?
