What are discussion guides?
Each week, as a church, we congregate in two ways: Sunday Gatherings and Community Groups. On Sundays, we hear a message from a passage of Scripture, typically exegetical, progressing through a whole book over several weeks/months, with the weekly sermons available here! The second way we gather is through community groups, which is likely why you're reading this! Each week, we'll have a discussion guide on the week's given passage (e.g., on Sunday, September 8, Jordan Penley preached from Mark 7:14-23, so during the week of September 9-14, our community groups discussed Mark 7:14-23 together).
The discussion guide serves as a springboard for leaders to get a quick, summarized look at the passage without having to spend hours studying in preparation for discussion. We encourage leaders to study and pray through the weekly passage as much as possible but understand that not everyone has the margin to dive deep into the passage each week.

The weekly discussion guides include a 5-10 paragraph summary of the passage, typically addressing any points of confusion or areas where group members may ask questions. The hope is that the guides will prepare you to lead discussion as best as possible and answer any tough or confusing questions that might arise.

That's okay! We don't expect you to know absolutely everything, so don't worry if your answer is "I don't know"! As a staff, we want to resource you as best as possible, so if you ever run into something you can't or don't know how to answer, reach out to a staff member, and we'd be happy to help guide you!

Nope! They're available as a resource for your benefit, but no one knows your group and your people like you do. You may have specific questions in mind about a given passage that will tease out conversations in your group. The questions you prepare for your group might not be as relevant or impactful for another community group, so if you're able, feel free to study the passage and write up your own questions! All we ask is that for regular CG gatherings, you 1) listen to the sermon from that Sunday and 2) stick with the passage we're going through as a church. We aim for everyone at King's Table Church to be united and move together to become more like Christ! We do this by all studying the same passage of Scripture each week in Sunday Gatherings, KT Kids, and CGs.

We live in such a blessed time in human history, as more resources are instantly available to us than ever. The drawback is that it can be hard to weed through the noise and know what resources are trustworthy. During each new sermon series or book of the Bible we go through, we try to equip leaders with a commentary of some kind, as well as different video/sermon resources. Reach out to a staff member if you're looking for trusted resources, and we'll be happy to point you in the right direction! Also, be sure to keep an eye out for new posts on the More Resources section of the Community Groups page on our site!
